Hoya caudata is a highly prized and distinctive Hoya species, celebrated for its unique textured foliage and captivating, often fuzzy flowers. Its name "caudata" is Latin for "tailed," referring to the tail-like appendages of its anthers in the flower's center.
Hoya caudata is native to Southeast Asia
It grows as a climbing epiphyte (on trees) or occasionally a lithophyte (on rocks, particularly limestone hills). Its natural habitat consists of very humid and shady lowland primary forests, often near streams, within the wet tropical biome. This indicates a preference for consistently high humidity, warm temperatures, and filtered light.
Hoya caudata was formally described by Joseph Dalton Hooker (1817–1911), a renowned British botanist and explorer. He published its description in 1883 in "Flora of British India."
