Hoya hanhiae is a relatively recently described Hoya species, named after the Vietnamese botanist Mrs. Nguyen Thuy Hanh, who discovered it.

Hoya hanhiae is native to Central Vietnam, specifically found in lowland coastal areas of Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa provinces. It grows as an epiphytic creeping vine on large old trees in secondary tropical evergreen seasonal broad-leaved lowland swamp forests on sandy soil, near the seashore.
