Hoya shepherdii is native to the Eastern Himalayas and Assam. It typically grows as an epiphyte (on trees) in cool and wet forests at higher elevations within these subtropical and temperate regions. This indicates a preference for good humidity but also cooler temperatures compared to many lowland tropical Hoyas, and excellent air circulation.
