Hoya stenophylla is a unique and sought-after Hoya species, distinctive for its exceptionally narrow, almost grass-like leaves. Its name "stenophylla" is derived from Greek, meaning "narrow-leaved," perfectly describing its foliage.

Hoya stenophylla is native to Southeast Asia, specifically found in Borneo.

It grows as an epiphyte (climbing on trees) in the wet tropical biome, particularly in lowland to lower montane rainforests.

Hoya stenophylla was formally described by Rudolf Schlechter (1872-1925), a prominent German botanist.

He published its description in 1908 in "Repertorium Specierum Novarum Regni Vegetabilis" (Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 4: 33).
