I am Hoya endauensis, a stunning epiphytic vine belonging to the Apocynaceae family.

My delicate, emerald leaves shimmer with a waxy sheen, their edges dancing in the gentle breeze. In the wild, I cling to the mossy branches of tall trees in the humid rainforests of Malaysia. Here, amidst the dappled sunlight and the constant mist, I thrive, my roots absorbing moisture from the air itself.

Sadly, my existence in the wild is precarious. I am classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss, deforestation, and illegal collection.

But there's hope! My story takes a turn within the protective embrace of a glasshouse.

Here, the air hangs heavy with moisture, mimicking the tropical haven I once knew. The sun's rays filter through, warming my leaves and coaxing them to unfurl further. It's in this controlled environment that I truly flourish, producing clusters of delicate, star-shaped flowers that emit a sweet, honey-like fragrance.

More than just a beautiful specimen, I stand as a symbol of conservation success. My presence here not only ensures the continuation of my own lineage, but also serves as a living testament to the crucial role botanical gardens play in preserving endangered species. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to join the fight against habitat loss and champion the protection of our precious biodiversity.

One day, I dream of returning to a thriving rainforest, my roots once again intertwined with the branches of ancient trees. But until then, I am content to flourish in this haven, knowing that my existence plays a vital role in the bigger picture. I am Hoya endauensis, and my story is far from over.
