Hoya pandurata is native to Southeast Asia, with its primary natural range being:, Southern China (specifically Guangxi and Yunnan provinces)
Indo china (including Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam)

It typically grows as an epiphyte (on trees) or sometimes a lithophyte (on rocks) in subtropical and tropical forests. It thrives in humid, warm microclimates with dappled light and excellent drainage. Some sources even mention it preferring cooler temperatures within its native range compared to many other Hoyas.


The species name "pandurata" is Latin for "fiddle-shaped," referring to the violin-like outline that some of its leaves can take on, though leaf shape can vary.
