Hoya vangviengiensis is a relatively recently described and particularly attractive Hoya species, highly esteemed for its lovely flowers and sometimes unique leaf characteristics.
Hoya vangviengiensis is native to Laos, specifically discovered near Vang Vieng, a popular tourist town in the Vientiane Province. The "vangviengiensis" in its name directly refers to this locality.
It grows in wet tropical and subtropical forests, typically as an epiphyte (climbing on trees) or a lithophyte (growing on rocks), often in limestone areas. Its natural habitat would involve warm temperatures, high humidity, and dappled to bright indirect light under a forest canopy.
Hoya vangviengiensis was formally described by a team of botanists: Michele Rodda, S.M. Dessein, and Kongkanda Chayamarit.
They published its description in 2013 in the scientific journal "Phytotaxa" (Phytotaxa 124(1): 29–38).
